Using coaching techniques at work Part 2: Dancing in the Moment / Zen

Using coaching techniques at work with your Japanese colleagues and clients can significantly enhance communication and collaboration.

As a newly graduated CTI-Trained Coach, I'm of course full of the experience and learning I've had the past 6 months while I was in the program. Some of the learning was new, but some I realized I've been practicing for years already.

One of the CTI coaching techniques I've found to be incredibly effective, especially with Japanese colleagues, is Dancing in the Moment. This technique refers to the coach's ability to be fully present, responsive, and flexible in the coaching relationship, adapting to the coachee's energy and evolving needs. It emphasizes being open to the unexpected, trusting the process, and allowing the conversation to flow naturally.

I later realized that Dancing in the Moment is very like Zen, which is about experiencing life fully and being present in each moment. Its teachings encourage individuals to cultivate mindfulness, simplicity, and a deep connection with the world around them, leading to greater peace and understanding.. This principle is particularly relevant when working with Japanese colleagues, where subtlety and context play significant roles in communication.

By incorporating these techniques at work, you can navigate the complexities of communication more effectively. Being aware of your own emotions and reactions, as well as those of your colleagues, allows for more meaningful interactions. This awareness helps you respond thoughtfully, creating a supportive environment for collaboration.
